Nanya Technology in CDP's A List for Water Security
The international environmental assessment indicator CDP has announced the evaluation results for 2022. Formosa Plastics Group (FPG) has been awarded the highest level of "A" in the "Water Security" category for the first time and a leadership level of "A-" in the "Climate Change" category, acknowledging FPG's efforts in water resource management and climate change adaptation.
FPG has disclosed its energy and carbon management strategy and performance for five consecutive years, earning the leadership level honor from CDP. Lee Pei-ying, the general manager of FPG, stated that "FPG is actively committed to energy-saving and carbon reduction actions, leading suppliers and partners to take active climate actions, including inventory and control of greenhouse gas emissions, and planning specific energy-saving and carbon reduction plans to mitigate the impact of operations on climate and the environment. The company also continues to promote water-saving measures, making the most of every drop of water through a complete wastewater recovery chain. In the future, we will continue to work with global partners towards the path of sustainable operations, making contributions to the environment, society, and economy."
FPG has long been concerned with water resource utilization issues, continuously promoting water-saving measures to reduce environmental impact and mitigate the risk of water shortage. FPG has invested more than NT$3 billion in water treatment equipment, and the process water recovery rate has significantly increased from 78.1% in 2017 to 90.8%. Subsequently, FPG will plan and evaluate various types of wastewater recovery schemes, including setting up a water resource regeneration center in the newly expanded advanced wafer fab. With the greatest effort, FPG aims to achieve the goal of not wasting any drop of recyclable wastewater. In 2022, FPG released its first TCFD report, revealing the impact of climate change on the company and the actions taken. FPG also continues to research and develop advanced and highly efficient "environmentally friendly products," with energy-saving products accounting for 87% of total revenue in 2021, helping consumers save more than 710 million kWh of electricity per year. The new generation of 10-nanometer process products can save between 16% to 35% of energy. In addition, the company's low-carbon products are also sold in new energy technology application markets, such as charging piles, electric vehicles, solar photovoltaic systems, and smart thermostats, contributing to the Earth's environment in many ways.
In the future, FPG will continue to strengthen its governance capabilities, internalize climate risks as operational risks, and mitigate greenhouse gas emissions through green products and production modes, making the best use of its influence and working with stakeholders to strengthen climate resilience and benefit the Earth.
