Ambassador Eugene Chien delivers speech at invitation of Bank of America ESG Corporate Dialog Seminar, analyzing ESG development and opportunities for domestic and oversea businesses

Bank of America Merrill Lynch held ESG Corporate Dialog Seminar at W Taipei on Tuesday, September 3rd. More than 60 high level business managers and executives were present in the seminar.

Ambassador Eugene Chien used the topic “Vigorous development of Taiwan’s corporate sustainability” to share the international trends of environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) and sustainable development goals (SDGs) as well as the excellent performance of Taiwan’s businesses. He mentioned that there were as many as 21 Taiwan companies listed in the 2019 DJSI world or emerging market indices. In the recent ESG disclosure rating by Blomberg Taiwan ranks No. 3 and these outstanding achievements prove that Taiwan gradually gains international recognition in corporate sustainability performance. Taiwan’s businesses have seen dramatic growth in sustainable development in the past ten years. According to statistics from Taiwan’s domestic CSR platform, the number of companies that have published CSR reports increased from more than 10 in 2008 to 528 in 2018. On the other hand companies that have taken part in Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Awards (TCSA) have even increased to 289 in number over the years. The ratio of the total revenue of those companies taking part in TCSA compared to the 2019 GDP is about 112%.

We wish that through more exchanges we can usher in dialog between each side to reach a consensus and build a more stable partnership to give the goals of sustainable development the chance to get more deep-rooted in Taiwan and get everyone to work together to build a sustainable future.
